A new philosophy has emerged from getting back to where I need to be: “Don’t think, DO.” It is simple. Stop thinking about what needs to be done and start doing it.
Prime example: waking up in the morning. Once I was thinking about it and thinking about how I did not want to get up at 6:30am, I was toast. “Five more minutes is fine… I don’t really need to be up this early anyway.” Done. See ya. Back to sleep. Compare this to hearing the alarm, disallowing internal dialogue, and getting out of bed. Success.
There is a time and place for thinking & strategizing. However, unless you are out of things to do, I would say this is a 10% of the time, or less, time commitment. I was allowing myself to take up 95% of the time thinking. When it is time to execute, thinking needs to halt. When you know what you need to do there should be no further debate or delay in doing it. Do it.
This is what I am telling myself at least. “Don’t think, do.” We’ll see how it works out.
