I started this entry 4 days into the cruise and haven’t made much progress since — maybe soon I will have a run down of the rest of our destinations on the cruise, but for now I will let the pictures do the talking =)
This should be a large update, we’ve now been on the cruise for 4 days. The Costa Fortuna has become my new floating home. It’s large. And by large I mean fifth biggest cruise boat in the water large. Also new, and rediculous. I understand why people like going on cruises now. Effortlessly, I have been seeing exotic places, eating unhealthy amounts of food, and enjoying amazing Mediterranean weather. All for a price which isn’t absurd.
Where to start? Back in Genoa, Italy, where the last update came from, I suppose. Katie, Kristin, & I made it to the Genoa train station alright. The problem was our train to Savona was cancelled. In its place we had to take the subway - a much longer and less scenic route. So we ran to the underground area of the station with our large suitcases and made it just in time. Theme of the trip: barely making it. From the Savona station we taxied out to the ginormous ship. Boarding the eleven story beast was simple. The logistics of a 2,500 person cruise ship are mind blowing. Three pools, six jacuzis, a giant waterslide, polished everything, glass elevators, eleven bars, five eating areas, casino, … the list could go on. This ship is the full enchilada. It even has internet. Although it costs a steep 60 cents per minute. All-in-all a very nice place to be staying for the next seven days. Bon voyage.
First stop: Naples. Towering over the bay was Mount Vesuvius. It looked down upon me with a sense of serenity which reminds me how miniscule we all our in the history of men. Stories of ancient Roman life came to mind. We didn’t actually spend time in the city of Naples. Instead, we took advantage of a cruise expedition which brought us to the ruins of Pompei. It was phenomenal.
