I did it. Watashi wa ganbatteimashita kara, nihongo wo tsuzukanakutemoiidesune. I am done with Japanese forever. I passed. I got the PS. What a journey it was, learning about a language with three huge character sets. Coming into Chapel Hill I thought, “I should take an Asian language to get a taste for what they’re like.” Boy, what a taste I got, five times a week. It is interesting stuff, but it’s not nearly as delicious as Kanki/Nakato/Sakura would have you believe. Final Japanese average after four semesters: B+. Suits me fine. Good game Kato, Sato, & Sawamura Senseis.
The xbox 360 was announced today on MTV. Watching that show was one the most painful experiences of my life. TV is horrible. If it weren’t for ESPN & Carolina Basketball we wouldn’t have cable at the house next year. It’s worthless. You get 15 minutes of content in exchange for another 15 minutes of repetitive commercials for crap you could care less about. If you’re curious about xbox 360 read about it at TeamXbox.com. The only thing MTV did do right was post trailers on their site. NBA2k6 looks crazy.
As for the xbox 360, aside from the MTV premier, it looks pretty amazing. The specs? Triple core IBM 3×3.2ghz PowerPC-based processor? 2 hardware threads per core? 128 registers per thread? 9 billion dot operations per second? WATER COOLED? 720P everything? Sick. Plain sick. This thing is a beast. We’re almost to the point of it being hard to tell if you’re looking at a game or a film. In my opinion, the challenge isn’t so much having the hardware capable of handling it anymore, as it is being able to make convincing models and art.
Today I read a little about the stock market and priced some technology stocks. I feel like AMD and Microsoft will be solid this year. I still do not know how I want to begin investing though. A Roth IRA seems like the most logical place to start. Advice is welcomed.
Lots to do tomorrow if I’m looking to make it to Charlotte to hang out with Kelly and other friends this weekend…
